Washington: The Post Office has a warning for blue and burgundy passport holders. They need to check their passport expiry dates before booking trips to the EU this summer. Surprisingly, one in four people never check their passport before making travel plans.

Many folks book their holidays just two months or less in advance. Richard Fleetwood, the Postmaster at Town Centre Washington Post Office, shared a story. A customer came in recently, worried about his expired passport. He was set to travel next month with friends.

Richard’s team helped him renew his passport using their Check & Send service. The customer returned later that day with everything needed. In just 10 minutes, they completed his application. He was thrilled to get his new passport so quickly!

Richard also mentioned that many people don’t know the rules about passport validity. His advice? Always check your passport’s expiry date before booking a trip. Also, review the travel rules for your destination.

The February Half Term is a popular time for travel. Keeping track of your passport can save you from stress later. January is the busiest month for passport applications, so it’s best to check early if you need a new one.

Research shows that 25% of people don’t know about the 10-year passport rule for EU travel. Plus, 23% are unaware of the six-month validity requirement for some countries.
