The Kilderkin pub on Edinburgh’s Royal Mile has closed, with tenants sharing plans for its future and a new management takeover.
Edinburgh: The Kilderkin pub on the Royal Mile has shut its doors as it waits for new management to take over. Current tenants, Kev and Claire, shared the news on Instagram.
They mentioned that the pub was originally set to close in February for some renovations, with plans to reopen in March 2025. But it seems like the trade in that part of the High Street just isn’t cutting it this time of year.
So, they decided to close a bit earlier than expected on January 6. Heineken has already lined up a new tenant who will use a low-risk model to run the place.
Kev and Claire expressed their gratitude to everyone who supported their small business. They highlighted the amazing staff and local breweries that made the pub special.
They also reminisced about the fantastic food, especially the macca, and hoped some of the staff might transition to the new management. It’s a bittersweet moment for them, but they’re looking forward to what’s next.
