Swansea: So, there’s this serious situation going on with a police sergeant named Rhodri Davies. He’s facing some pretty heavy allegations for using way too much force on a guy named Tariq Evans, who was already handcuffed. This all went down back in October 2022 at the Swansea Central police station.

During a misconduct hearing, it was claimed that the force used by Sgt Davies was not just excessive but also unlawful. He’s denying all of it, though. This hearing comes right after another officer, PC Jack Williams, was jailed for beating up Evans during his arrest for something else.

Apparently, after Evans was brought in, Sgt Davies took him down to the ground and then yanked him up by the handcuffs in a way that was deemed unsafe. He’s also accused of hitting Evans multiple times and using a dangerous restraint technique.

There’s video footage from body cameras that shows Evans clearly distressed and shouting while being surrounded by officers. It’s pretty intense, and you can hear him pleading and the officers swearing. It’s a lot to take in, honestly.

The panel is looking into all of this, and they’ve decided that Evans doesn’t need to testify in person, which is probably a good call considering how distressing that could be for him. The hearing is still ongoing, so we’ll have to see how it all plays out.
