Last year, police teams moved. They left the station on Central Avenue. Their new spot was in Aycliffe Business Park.

Durham Constabulary’s lease ended in 2024. The lease was at the fire station. Police want a new, good location that is cost-effective too.

Currently, staff work at GLOW, a venue in the town’s south. The fire station is still useful, and they still use it for some things.

Ken Robson, a local councillor, asked about the progress. He wants a new site for the police.

Residents spoke to Joy Allen, the Police and Crime Commissioner. People want a police station in Newton Aycliffe and also desire a contact hub on Central Avenue.

Allen said she’s committed and wants a good police presence. They want a new police station soon, to be built when they find a place. Allen added that they still operate outside the area. The fire station and GLOW will continue while they seek a suitable location.

Lifeline Community hub work started last month. The local police team campaigned for years, along with other vital partners.

The hub aims to help people and will be in the old Woolworths store on Beveridge Way within the city.

Sergeant Andy Boyd talked about the hub, noting that Newton Aycliffe has amazing groups but they never had space together.

The police team wanted this, a central hub, for years. This hub will serve the entire community.

Everyone knows the location and it is a place where people can access help and support, whatever their problem.
