Stuart Hogg, the former rugby star, receives a community order for domestic abuse, avoiding jail time after a lengthy case
Glasgow: So, former rugby player Stuart Hogg has been sentenced today for some serious stuff. He faced charges of domestic abuse against his ex-wife, and it’s been going on for over five years.
At Selkirk Sheriff Court, he got a Community Payback Order and a five-year non-harassment order. Not exactly a walk in the park, but he’s not going to jail.
Hogg, who used to captain the Scotland rugby team, admitted to the abuse that happened between April 2019 and August 2024, mostly in the Scottish Borders and down in Devon, England. He was found guilty on November 4, 2024.
Police Scotland had something to say about it too. They praised the victim for coming forward, which is a big deal. Detective Sergeant Jade Wardell made it clear that domestic abuse is totally unacceptable.
She emphasized that without the victim stepping up, they wouldn’t have been able to hold Hogg accountable. Police Scotland is serious about tackling domestic abuse and encourages anyone facing such issues to reach out for help.
It’s a tough situation, but it’s good to see the police taking a stand and supporting victims. If you or someone you know is in a similar situation, don’t hesitate to contact them.
