Birmingham: A woman is fighting for her life after a house fire. This incident happened on Tuesday, January 28, just after 9 PM. The fire took place at a flat on the corner of Simmons Leasow and Sommerfield Road in Bartley Green.

The woman, in her 60s, was rushed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Another woman was also taken to the same hospital for suspected smoke inhalation.

Police and fire crews were on the scene shortly after the fire started. Forensic investigators have been looking into the cause. However, West Midlands Police say they do not suspect arson.

Police received reports of the fire around 9:20 PM. They confirmed that the 61-year-old woman remains in serious condition at the hospital.

A spokeswoman from West Midlands Ambulance Service said they were called to the fire at 9:12 PM. Emergency crews arrived to find a woman with life-threatening injuries.

After treating her on the scene, they took her to the hospital with a trauma doctor on board. The second woman was treated for smoke inhalation and also went to the hospital.
