Saffron Walden: So, here’s the scoop. Police are defending themselves after a fancy bronze sculpture went missing from an artist’s garden last month. This piece, worth around £60,000, has everyone talking.

Anne Curry, the artist, came home from a funeral on December 6 to find her stunning sculpture, La Promesse, just gone. It’s a big deal, weighing about 350kg and shaped like an iris flower.

At 82, Anne is well-known for her garden sculptures and even made a bust of Sir John Major for the House of Commons. She wasn’t too happy with Essex Police, saying it took them three weeks to visit her after the theft.

But the police say they tried to reach out to her four times in December, but she didn’t respond. They finally got to her on December 27. Now, they’re asking anyone who might know something about the theft to step forward and help out.
