A Plymouth police cadet has been recognized nationally for his exceptional contributions to local communities
Plymouth: A young police cadet named Caolan Hutchins has just bagged a national award for his amazing work in the community. At just 16, he’s been part of the police cadets for two years and has really made a difference.
He received the Lord Ferrers Award for his efforts in protecting and educating people. This award is a big deal, especially since it highlights how cadets like him help out in their neighborhoods.
Caolan and his fellow cadets, who are between 13 and 17 years old, work closely with the police. They engage with the public, share crime prevention tips, and help at local events. It’s all about making the community safer and more informed.
Deb Hart, the Police Youth Engagement Officer, mentioned how much Caolan has grown since joining. He started off a bit shy but has really stepped up, even leading sessions for younger cadets. It’s great to see him helping shape the next generation.
He’s all about inclusivity, making sure everyone feels welcome and valued. Caolan’s hard work has earned him several accolades, including Cadet of the Year and the national Lord Ferrers Award.
Recently, he even assisted police officers in a test purchase operation aimed at preventing knife sales to minors. This initiative is crucial for educating shops about the laws surrounding knife sales.
Deb Hart praised Caolan’s professionalism and dedication, saying he truly deserves the recognition for his service. His efforts are setting a standard for other cadets and police forces across the UK.
If anyone’s interested in joining the cadets or becoming a leader, there’s plenty of info available through the Devon & Cornwall Police Cadets.
