Aintree: The old fire station has been a part of the community for ages. It closed its doors for good last spring, marking the end of an era.

Now, there are plans to turn it into flats and offices. The new proposal comes after Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service opened a shiny new super station nearby.

Can you believe it? The Aintree site was just about to hit its 100th birthday! When it closed last May, many firefighters and their families said their goodbyes.

Best Care Liverpool bought the site last year and wants to keep some of its history alive. They’ve got a solid plan to convert the old station into housing.

When the fire station was up for grabs, around 170 people showed interest. Best Care Liverpool made the winning bid of £650,000, and the deal was approved in December 2023.

They even held open days for potential buyers to check it out. In the end, 44 parties made formal offers, but Best Care Liverpool came out on top.

This company is family-owned and started by qualified nurses back in 2018. They provide home care services in the area, so they know the community well.

Best Care has shown they can fund the project through a mix of cash and remortgaging. Their plan is to turn the ground floor into offices and the first floor into four self-contained flats.

They promise to keep the building’s exterior recognizable as a former fire station, even reusing the old fire engine doors. The new flats will have one or two bedrooms, complete with living areas.

We should hear back about the plans soon. It’ll be interesting to see how this historic site transforms!
