Cardiff: After sitting empty for two and a half years, plans are finally in motion to revamp the old Wolf’s Castle pub. It closed back in August 2022, leaving landlady Angela Bloom and her loyal customers heartbroken. Since then, the place has just been gathering dust.

The council has been brainstorming what to do with the site in Llanishen. They couldn’t keep it as a pub, so the housing department stepped in. They kicked off a consultation on December 18, 2024, to hear what locals think about turning this historic spot into housing.

The pub is all boarded up now. The plan is to tear it down and build family homes instead. They thought about making it a place for the elderly, but decided families needed it more. If you want the latest updates on Cardiff, you can sign up for their newsletter.

Interestingly, this site has a rich history. It used to be farmland back in the 1800s, and part of the old farmhouse is still there. The pub itself served drinks for 64 years before it was left to rot.

When the news broke about its closure, many regulars were devastated. In July 2024, the council even added The Wolf’s Castle to their Local Heritage List to help protect its historical bits.

Councillor Garry Hunt from Llanishen expressed his disappointment about the building being unused for so long. He mentioned that while some grassland might be lost with the new development, it’s necessary. He and Councillor Bethan Proctor have been keeping tabs on the situation, especially since there’s been some trouble with anti-social behavior around the site.

There’s been a lot of chatter about the site and some legal stuff going on, which has slowed things down. But Hunt is optimistic. If all goes well, we might see some action on that site pretty soon.
