A new housing estate in Uttoxeter aims to provide 80 affordable homes for locals, addressing the growing need for affordable housing in the area
Uttoxeter: There’s a new housing project in the works! Plans have been submitted for an 80-home estate off Stafford Road. The goal? To create affordable homes for local folks.
All the houses will be affordable, with a mix of social rent and shared ownership options. It’s called Blounts Green, and it’s right next to Olive Park, which is almost done.
The developers want to make sure the new homes fit in with the character of Uttoxeter. They’re aiming for a 100% affordable site, with half of the homes for social rent and the other half split between affordable rent and shared ownership.
John McLean from Vistry mentioned that there’s a real need for affordable housing in East Staffordshire. House prices have gone up quite a bit, and it’s tough for first-time buyers to find something within their budget.
He pointed out that private rents have also shot up, making it even harder for locals. The area really needs more options for affordable homes.
The plans include open spaces and a new play area, plus they’re trying to keep as many hedgerows as possible. Each home will have an electric vehicle charging point, which is pretty cool!
There were some worries about flooding, but the planning team has included measures to tackle that. They’re planning to add a pond to help manage any water issues.
Jessica Herritty from Turley said they’re submitting a flood risk assessment to ensure everything is safe. They’re taking climate change into account, too, which is smart.
Now that the consultation is over, they’ll review all the feedback before submitting the full planning application. Residents will get another chance to share their thoughts, so it’s a good time to get involved!
