Telford: A proposed housing estate has residents up in arms over its unusual shape. Yep, you heard that right—a penis-shaped estate! It’s set to have around 250 homes on a former coal mine site, and folks are not happy about it.

Most locals think the design is just plain ridiculous. Out of 286 responses, about 85% were against the plan. One resident, Antony, called the shape “as absurd as the plans themselves.” Can you blame them?

Jane, another resident, pointed out that it’s not just the shape that’s a problem. She’s worried about losing green space for more houses. “It’s yet another area of green being bulldozed,” she said. Plus, she mentioned that people would have to drive far just to walk their dogs.

The plans do include a cycle and pedestrian route, but many are still concerned about the impact on local wildlife. The area is home to some lovely creatures, and they don’t want to see that go.

The planning documents even noted that many residents are worried about losing one of the last green spaces in Lawley. It’s a place where kids play and dog walkers stroll.

While the developers say they’ll try to keep some natural buffers with trees and hedgerows, it’s hard to see how that’ll make up for the loss of green space. The site is already part of Telford’s built-up area, but it still has its charm.

In the end, the council is looking to provide affordable housing, but at what cost? Residents are hoping their voices will be heard before any decisions are made.
