Inverurie: Exciting news! Plans to build 700 new homes are finally moving forward after a long wait. It’s been over a decade since the first ideas popped up.

The Crichie development, near Port Elphinstone, was first suggested back in 2012. But, oh boy, it’s been a rollercoaster ride with lots of delays between the council and the developers, Dandara Homes.

Now, it looks like things are finally happening. Road officials have agreed to include an A96 underpass at the site, which is a big step forward.

The new designs also feature a footpath and cycleway, making it easier for folks to get to the western side of the Aberdeen to Inverness road. Plus, they’re upgrading the Port Elphinstone roundabout, which is great news for traffic.

Back in 2018, they got the green light for 737 homes, along with some transport upgrades and space for a new business park. But wait, there’s more! They’ve now added plans for a primary school and sports pitches too.

Dandara mentioned that the road upgrades were a big reason for the delays. They were worried it would make the project less viable.

The site will have a mix of homes, from one to four bedrooms, including affordable options and properties for social rent. It’s all about making sure there’s something for everyone.

This Crichie project is part of a bigger plan for growth in Inverurie. Cala Homes is also looking to add 100 new properties in the area. Exciting times ahead!
