Exciting plans are underway to create 20,000 jobs and significantly boost the economy in Greater Manchester
Bury: There’s some big news brewing in Greater Manchester! A plan is in motion to create around 20,000 jobs and give the local economy a hefty boost of £570 million. Sounds pretty exciting, right?
People are being invited to share their thoughts on the Northern Gateway project, which is set to be the largest employment development in the area. It’s all happening in the Atom Valley Mayoral Development Zone, aiming to attract jobs and investments to the northern boroughs.
The sites will be conveniently located near the M60, M62, and M66 motorways, right on the Bury and Rochdale border. The first phase alone could bring about 9,990 high-quality jobs, with the total expected to hit 20,000. Plus, that £570 million boost will also mean an extra £20 million in business rates for local councils.
Imagine 600,000 square meters of space dedicated to advanced manufacturing, industrial work, and logistics. There’s even talk of retail spots, cafes, a hotel, and green spaces for everyone to enjoy. It’s all about connecting homes with jobs through active travel routes.
The Northern Gateway Development Vehicle, a partnership between Russell LDP and Harworth Group, is leading the charge. They’re gearing up to submit a planning application for the first phase, which will cover about half of the proposed area.
A spokesperson for the project said it’s going to be one of the largest employment hubs in the UK, attracting businesses from all over. They’re excited about the opportunities it’ll create for folks in Bury, Rochdale, and beyond, offering high-quality jobs in various fields.
