An elderly woman in Cumbria is devastated after hounds invaded her garden
Troutbeck: An 88-year-old woman named Toni Gibson is feeling really upset after a pack of hounds tore through her garden. They were on the hunt for a live fox, and it went on for over an hour!
Toni and her husband, John, who’s 86, watched as the dogs ran around their property and nearby horse fields. They think the hounds were acting differently than they would during a regular trail hunt.
Trail hunting is supposed to be a kinder alternative to fox hunting, which was banned back in 2004. But the footage of the hounds in Toni and John’s garden on December 6 left them feeling pretty shaken up.
Toni shared how the whole thing made her really sad, even bringing her to tears. She’s eager for the government to step in and fulfill their promise to ban trail hunting.
Interestingly, the Labour Party has committed to banning trail hunting, and the current environment secretary, Steve Reed, has promised to tackle fox hunting in their first term. Chris Luffingham from the League Against Cruel Sports is now urging the government to set a timeline for this ban.
He pointed out that incidents like this are happening all over the country, causing chaos in rural areas. It’s especially upsetting when it happens to pensioners just trying to enjoy their retirement.
Chris is calling for the government to act quickly, close the loopholes in the law, and ensure that those who break the rules face serious consequences. He believes it’s time to put an end to fox hunting for good.
