Pembrokeshire is set to become a hub for clean energy jobs and innovation, driving the UK’s green growth.
Pembrokeshire: So, guess what? Pembrokeshire is being recognized as a major player in the clean energy scene. The government has this cool Plan for Change that’s all about creating new job opportunities in the clean energy sector.
They’re really pushing to make sure that by 2030, Britain is all about clean power. And Pembrokeshire is right at the front of that movement. It’s not just Pembrokeshire, though; places like Aberdeen and Lincolnshire are also getting in on the action with their offshore wind and solar projects.
These regions are set to get some funding to help figure out what skills are needed to make this clean energy dream a reality. This could mean new training centers and courses for locals, which is pretty exciting.
They’re even rolling out a “skills passport” to help oil and gas workers transition into clean energy jobs. Starting January 22, these workers can create an account to explore different career paths in offshore wind, like construction and maintenance.
The tool is backed by some serious funding from the UK and Scottish governments, and it’s going to expand to include more pathways from oil and gas to renewables. Pembrokeshire, along with a few other areas, is getting about £1 million to kick things off.
Jo Stevens, the Secretary of State for Wales, mentioned that there’s a ton of potential for economic growth in Wales, especially with clean energy tech like floating offshore wind. It’s all about creating a skilled workforce ready for the future.
Rebecca Evans from the Welsh Government is also thrilled about this pilot program. She sees it as a great opportunity for Pembrokeshire and the surrounding areas to really shine in the clean energy sector.
