The Pembrokeshire campervan trial aims to balance local business needs with visitor convenience, starting in early 2025.
Pembrokeshire: So, there’s this new trial for overnight campervan parking near the Fishguard ferry, and it’s kicking off early in 2025. Pretty exciting, right?
The council’s been working on this since February when they decided to try out the ‘Pembs Stop’ scheme at a few car parks. They picked spots like North Beach in Tenby and Goodwick Moor.
This whole idea got a lot of attention, even making it onto BBC Radio Wales. But not everyone’s on board. Local businesses are worried it might hurt their trade, and the tourism group, Visit Pembrokeshire, raised some eyebrows too.
For just £10 a night, you can park there from 7 PM to 9 AM. The trial will last 18 months, and they might even add Pembroke Dock’s Western Way car park later on.
Cllr Rhys Sinnett mentioned that they want to find a good balance between what local businesses need and what campervan users want. He pointed out that campervans are already using Goodwick, so this could help manage things better.
They estimate around 1,000 campervans will use this facility each year. The council is also looking to learn from a similar trial in Snowdonia.
They’re aiming to kick off the Goodwick trial in March, but there might be a slight delay due to some traffic order stuff that needs sorting out.
