Haverfordwest Golf Club has successfully raised over £6,500 for the Wales Air Ambulance, thanks to community efforts and support from Werndale Hospital
Haverfordwest: A Pembrokeshire golf club has done something amazing! They raised over £6,500 for a lifesaving charity, and it’s all thanks to the hard work of the members.
The club teamed up with Werndale Hospital to support the Wales Air Ambulance. Men’s captain Alex Jones, ladies captain Jacky Jones, and seniors captain Lynn Davies really pulled together to raise £3,322.29.
And guess what? Werndale Hospital matched that amount, bringing the total to a whopping £6,644.58! How cool is that?
Throughout the year, the private hospital helped the golf club with various fundraising events. They had a whisky trot, captains day, and even a chipping competition, all organized by Alex.
The ladies section got creative too, raising money through fines, donations, tips, raffles, and a Christmas card tree. The seniors chipped in with their own competitions as well.
Jacky Jones, who is also the executive director of Werndale Hospital, shared how rewarding it was to support the Wales Air Ambulance. She said their work is crucial for communities in Wales, and they’re proud to have raised enough for at least one lifesaving flight.
The Wales Air Ambulance provides top-notch care, transferring patients directly to the right hospital, which can save lives. They offer advanced critical care right at the scene, which is pretty impressive.
Mike May, the charity’s regional fundraising manager, visited the club to accept the donation. He expressed gratitude for the incredible amount raised and highlighted how vital support from clubs like Haverfordwest is for their operations.
Every year, the Wales Air Ambulance needs to raise £11.2 million to keep their helicopters flying and response vehicles on the road. Without community support, they wouldn’t be able to save lives across Wales.
Werndale Hospital is part of the Circle Health Group, and together, they’re making a real difference!
