Residents in Pembrokeshire were amazed as the Northern Lights dazzled the night sky, marking a stunning beginning to the new year.
Pembrokeshire: Wow, what a night! Residents were treated to an incredible display of the Northern Lights, lighting up the skies over west Wales. It was a breathtaking sight that kicked off 2025 in style.
The aurora borealis made its grand entrance on Wednesday night, painting the sky in vibrant shades of pink, purple, and green. It was like nature’s own fireworks show!
People were buzzing, sharing their stunning photos in the Western Telegraph Camera Club Facebook group. The clear skies over St David’s were just perfect for catching this magical moment.
A spokesperson from the Met Office explained that these lights happen due to solar activity. Basically, charged particles from the sun collide with our atmosphere, creating this beautiful light show.
They mentioned that solar winds travel super fast, around a million miles per hour! Depending on what gas molecules get hit, you see different colors. For instance, oxygen gives off green light when it’s hit about 60 miles up.
It’s pretty cool that the lights can sometimes only be seen through a camera lens. If you want to catch them, it’s best to find a spot away from city lights.
If you missed it, don’t worry! You can still check out more amazing photos from locals by joining the Western Telegraph Camera Club on Facebook.
