From January 6 to January 10, a bus service was supposed to run. It was meant to connect Cleethorpes and Brigg, but the buses never showed up.
People arrived at the stations, only to find no buses waiting. This left many frustrated and scrambling to change their plans.
Paul Johnson from the Independent Brigg Line Rail Group shared that the bus service was planned due to the canceled train. However, the buses didn’t arrive as scheduled.
One man tried to catch the bus for three days. He reported that the bus was still listed on the timetable, but it never came. Staff at the station couldn’t provide answers either.
Afterward, he filed a Freedom of Information request. He learned that the request for buses wasn’t sent in time, causing the oversight.
Other passengers faced similar issues. A woman with a buggy also waited for a bus that never came. Many were upset about the situation.
In 2023, weekday train service resumed in Brigg after being limited to Saturdays for 30 years. The train leaves Sheffield at 9:54 AM and arrives in Brigg at 11:07 AM.
Passengers can only stay in Brigg for about three hours before needing to leave again. Those coming from Grimsby or Cleethorpes face a long wait for the return train.
In May, a timetable change is expected. Paul hopes to add another round-trip to improve connections.
A Northern spokesperson apologized for the inconvenience. They acknowledged the internal error that caused the missed buses.
