A partially sighted man shares his fear of an abusive ex who attacked him with hairspray
Manchester: A man was attacked by his ex, who he described as abusive. The court heard that Liam Corcoran, 23, had a violent history with his former partner.
They had been together for four years, but things turned ugly after a night out. The victim felt like he was always on edge, never knowing how Corcoran would act.
On September 28, they were outside a takeaway when Corcoran started yelling at him. He punched him in the face, and though the injuries were minor, the victim reported it to the police.
Days later, after another night out, Corcoran lost it again. He pinned his ex to the floor and started hitting him. The victim managed to kick him off, but then Corcoran came back with hairspray.
He sprayed it directly into the victim’s eye, targeting his already limited eyesight. This was a personal attack, and the victim felt something snap inside him. He tried to tackle Corcoran but was pushed away.
The next day, the victim found messages where Corcoran admitted to using an electric razor during the attack. The police were called, and Corcoran was arrested. He later pleaded guilty to assault.
In a heartfelt statement, the victim expressed his fear and relief at being free from Corcoran. He had felt abused in many ways over the years. However, he later retracted his statement, worrying about Corcoran’s wellbeing.
Corcoran’s lawyer argued that he had no prior convictions and was now in a better place with a new partner. He received an 18-month community order for his actions.
