Nottinghamshire sees a surge in drink and drug driving charges during the festive season
Nottinghamshire: More than 80 drivers have been charged with drink or drug driving over the Christmas period. This includes one guy who was reportedly four times over the legal alcohol limit. Can you believe that?
The police ran roadside tests on 168 people during the holidays, which led to 84 charges. The highest reading came from a man in Mapperley, who’s now facing charges and is set to appear in court soon.
Another driver, found slumped behind the wheel in Aspley, also had a reading over four times the limit. He’s got a court date coming up too. It’s pretty wild how some folks just ignore the risks.
This crackdown was part of Nottinghamshire Police’s Deadly Mix campaign, aimed at tackling drink driving during a time when people tend to indulge a bit more. Chief Inspector James Walker expressed disappointment over the number of offenders but noted that most drivers are responsible.
He highlighted the serious consequences of drink driving, mentioning how tragic it is when lives are lost or changed forever due to reckless choices. It’s a tough job for the police, dealing with the aftermath of these accidents.
