A woman was threatened with a suspected handgun during a robbery in South Belfast
Belfast: A woman had a terrifying experience on the Ormeau Road when a man threatened her with what looked like a handgun during a robbery. It all went down around 3:10 PM on a Saturday.
She was just crossing the street at Candahar Street when a guy snatched her black leather bag right off her shoulder. Can you believe that? She tried to chase him down, but things took a scary turn.
At the corner of Burmah Street and Ava Avenue, he pointed the suspected gun at her before running off toward Parkmore Street. That’s just wild!
The poor woman ended up with a cut on her knee and was understandably shaken up. The police are looking for anyone who might have seen what happened, especially since this was in broad daylight.
Detective Sergeant Faulkner shared that the suspect was thin and wearing grey tracksuit bottoms, a black coat, and trainers with a baby blue tick. Sounds like he was trying to blend in, but not well enough!
Local councillor Gary McKeown expressed his shock over the incident, especially since it happened in such a busy area. He’s worried about the impact this will have on the community and hopes the woman is getting the support she needs.
The police are urging anyone with information to come forward. If you saw anything or know something, don’t hesitate to reach out. It’s crucial to help keep the community safe.
