On matchdays in Peterborough, 10% of parking tickets are issued, raising concerns
Peterborough: Did you know that on matchdays, one in ten parking tickets gets issued? That’s a lot! The city council’s parking team shared this info recently.
Since the season started on August 10, 2024, over 10,700 tickets were given out. Out of these, 1,043 were issued on matchdays, with 168 during the games.
This topic came up at a council meeting in January. People wanted to know how many parking officers were on duty during matches.
Councillor Alison Jones mentioned plans to boost the number of parking officers. They want to patrol residential areas, car parks, and pay-and-display spots.
She also said they plan to add more officers to the enforcement team. This includes having extra staff available for busy events like football matches.
Interestingly, the number of parking officers on matchdays dropped from four to just two recently. This change happened between late August and January.
There were even four matches where no tickets were issued at all! This includes the opening game against Huddersfield and a few evening matches.
The highest number of tickets issued on a matchday was 132. This happened on January 14 when Peterborough faced Walsall in the EFL Trophy.
