Stafford: A former cinema that’s been sitting empty for a while might get a new lease on life. The old Stafford Cinema, which closed its doors a few years back, is in the spotlight again. This time, there’s a proposal to turn it into a place of worship.

Originally, there were plans to make it a music venue, but those didn’t pan out. Now, the Redeemed Christian Church of God is looking to step in. If Stafford Borough Council gives the green light, the building could become a hub for community activities.

The cinema first opened in 1936, and it’s been on the market again since last year. With the new Odeon Cinema nearby, the old cinema’s days as a movie house seem numbered. The church plans to keep the building’s exterior intact, focusing on making some internal changes for classrooms and community spaces.

They argue that losing the cinema won’t hurt the town since folks still have access to films at the Odeon. Plus, the church’s use would mean more sociable hours compared to the late-night cinema crowds. It sounds like a win-win for the community!
