New data reveals Nottingham has the highest rate of dangerous driving offences in the East Midlands, surpassing other areas.
Nottingham: New data shows it has the worst drivers in the East Midlands. Dangerous driving offences are higher here than anywhere else in the region.
For every 100,000 people over the legal driving age, Nottingham recorded 43 offences. That means one dangerous driving crime for every 2,572 people.
Newark and Sherwood came in second, with 38 offences per 100,000. This translates to one offence for every 3,194 people.
A new map highlights areas in Nottinghamshire where dangerous drivers are more common. Nottinghamshire reported 104 dangerous driving crimes, including nine that caused serious injury or death.
These numbers are up from last year’s 95 offences but slightly down from 2022’s 109 offences. Dangerous driving includes actions that fall below safe driving standards.
Examples of dangerous driving are speeding, racing, and ignoring traffic signals. Driving under the influence or while unfit also counts as dangerous driving.
Consequences for dangerous driving can include fines, driving bans, or even prison time. Interestingly, Bradford has the highest rate of dangerous driving in England and Wales.
