The mystery runner for Nos Galan 2024 has been unveiled as Olympic champion Lauren Price, adding excitement to the New Year’s Eve event in Mountain Ash
Mountain Ash: The annual Nos Galan Road Race is buzzing with excitement as they’ve just revealed that the mystery runner for 2024 is none other than champion boxer Lauren Price MBE. The event organizers are thrilled to have such a celebrated athlete join the festivities.
The race kicks off with kids’ categories before Lauren arrives, carrying the Nos Galan torch and lighting the beacon in the town center. It’s a real treat for everyone involved!
Rhondda Cynon Taf (RCT) Council expressed their joy, saying, “Runners and spectators of all ages will be delighted to see Lauren Price MBE on the streets tonight. She’s a local hero who’s made it big on the world stage.”
Lauren is quite the athlete! She’s the only Welsh boxer to snag an Olympic gold medal and has also won four world kickboxing titles. Plus, she’s played football for Wales 52 times!
Just weeks ago, she defended her WBA welterweight World champion title and is gearing up for a big fight at the Royal Albert Hall in March 2025. Talk about a busy schedule!
Joining her for the run is Ria Burrage-Male, another impressive athlete who’s competed in the Commonwealth Games. Ria has also been the CEO of Welsh Hockey and is now a trustee for Cymru Women Sport.
On top of that, Ria runs her own podiatry clinic, Aberdare Feet, not far from where the race takes place. These women are truly inspiring!
Cllr Ann Crimmings from the Nos Galan Road Races Committee thanked Lauren and Ria for being part of the event. She highlighted how the races celebrate sporting achievements and keep the legend of Guto Nyth Bran alive.
“These women represent what can be achieved with hard work and dedication,” she said. “I hope young people in the crowd tonight feel inspired to chase their dreams.”
As the night unfolds, there will be a firework display after Lauren’s arrival, followed by the fun run and elite races. It’s shaping up to be an unforgettable evening!
