A Northumberland man caught with child abuse images expresses deep remorse for his actions
The trouble started when the National Crime Agency discovered he uploaded an indecent image to Snapchat. After that, police raided his home and found a stash of child sexual abuse images on his phone.
In total, Rain had 20 indecent images, with three being the most serious type. While he was chatting with others on Snapchat, there was no proof he shared any images.
Rain, who used to live in Hexham but now resides in Lazonby, faced Newcastle Crown Court for sentencing. He had already pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images, which he committed between December 2021 and June 2023.
During the court proceedings, the prosecutor, Amber Walker, explained that police acted on a tip-off from the National Crime Agency. They traced the username and IP address back to Rain.
When they searched his home, they seized his phone, laptop, and PlayStation. They found three category A images, six category B images, and 11 category C images on his phone. Some of the children in those images were as young as five.
Rain’s defense lawyer, Mark Harrison, mentioned that he had cooperated with the police and had the support of his family. He said Rain had no excuses for his actions and had become addicted to explicit material.
The judge, Julie Clemitson, expressed concern over Rain chatting with people on Snapchat. She sentenced him to six months in prison, suspended for 18 months, and ordered him to complete 40 rehabilitation days and 90 hours of unpaid work. He’ll also be on the sex offenders register for seven years and has to pay £150 in costs.
