A lorry driver has been arrested following a tragic incident on the A19 that resulted in the death of a police officer and another individual
Thirsk: A lorry driver from Northumberland has been arrested after a tragic crash on the A19. This incident led to the deaths of two people, including a police officer.
PC Rosie Prior was helping at the scene when she was struck by a heavy goods vehicle. The driver, a 65-year-old man from Berwick-upon-Tweed, has been arrested but released under investigation.
Sadly, both PC Prior and another man, Ryan Welford, lost their lives at the scene. A teenage boy who was in Welford’s car was also hit and is currently in serious but stable condition at the hospital.
PC Prior joined the police force in May 2022. Her family described her as a loving mother and wife, and they will miss her deeply. The Chief Constable expressed profound sadness over her passing.
He mentioned that they are doing everything possible to support the families affected by this heartbreaking event. Welford’s family also shared their grief, highlighting what a loving father and husband he was.
