Northam Burrows is calling for volunteers to join conservation efforts and enjoy nature while learning new skills
Northam: If you’re looking to spend more time outdoors this year, you might want to check out some volunteering opportunities with the Rangers at Torridge District Council.
They’re kicking off a new program for conservation projects at Northam Burrows, Gatefield Community Grassland, and Kenwith Valley. This year, they’re planning to plant 1,000 trees at Gatefield, along with other nature conservation tasks.
The first project starts on January 8 with wildflower meadow management at Gatefield. After that, there are several fun activities lined up, like a harvest mouse survey and beach clean-ups.
Councillor Cheryl Cottle Hunkin, who’s in charge of culture and community engagement, is excited about the new volunteering events. She believes it’s a fantastic way for folks to learn new skills and connect with nature while meeting others in the community.
She hopes people will feel inspired to join in and make a difference. Plus, it’s a great way to kick off 2025!
All volunteer events are free and usually run from 10 am to 3 pm. They provide all the equipment, but you need to pre-book. Just shoot an email to northam.burrows@torridge.gov.uk or give them a call at 01237 479708 for more info.
