Councillors will meet to discuss plans for a new electric vehicle charging hub in Holystone, North Tyneside
North Tyneside: Councillors are gearing up to meet next week to decide on a new electric vehicle charging station in Holystone. It’s an exciting development for the area!
The planning committee will look at a proposal to turn some empty land between Edmund Road and Holystone Way into a charging hub. This plan also includes a spot for grabbing food and drinks, which is pretty cool.
According to the plans from Godwin Developments, they want to set up 30 charging bays and 24 regular parking spots, plus a drive-through area. Sounds like a convenient setup!
The documents say this project is just the right size for the location and will serve both local folks and visitors. It’s all part of the UK’s push to go electric with vehicles.
The charging points will be available 24/7, while the food hub will be open from 6 am to 11 pm. InstaVolt, the company behind this, has a huge network of rapid chargers across the UK.
Interestingly, a previous plan to build retail units on the same land was turned down back in 2020. The council felt it was too big and would affect nearby homes. This new proposal is much smaller, so it seems like a better fit.
This initiative is also in response to the upcoming ban on new petrol and diesel cars by 2035, part of the government’s green strategy. It’s a step towards a more sustainable future!
The planning committee will meet at 6 pm on Tuesday, January 14, to discuss this. Council officers are recommending that the plans get the green light.
