North Shields: Exciting news! Plans are in for a new micropub called the Tipsy Pig. It’s set to take over a former ceramics studio on Russell Street.

The local planning committee will meet soon to decide if this spot can officially become the new home for the Tipsy Pig. Last November, they gave the green light for an alcohol license, but now they need to approve the change of use for the building.

Interestingly, there was a petition with 46 signatures against the alcohol license. Folks were worried that the area isn’t right for another pub, claiming there are already plenty in the town center.

Debbie Stevens, the applicant, is confident. She says the Tipsy Pig will be a responsible place, attracting a more mature crowd and focusing on craft beers. She also wants to keep good relations with neighbors, the council, and the police.

However, locals have raised concerns again, submitting another petition with the same number of signatures. They’re worried about noise, traffic, and privacy issues.

The council’s report on the application, though, seems to favor the micropub. They believe it could breathe new life into the area and help the local economy.

They did acknowledge the worries about anti-social behavior but pointed out that just fearing it isn’t enough to block the application. There needs to be solid evidence, and they don’t think this new pub would add to any existing problems.

Councillors will meet on January 14 at Cobalt HQ to make their final decision. It’ll be interesting to see how this unfolds!
