North Shields: A man named Peter Percy has been banned from keeping animals for five years after some pretty shocking neglect. He kept puppies in a filthy home and even had birds stuffed in a cupboard.

When the RSPCA got involved, they found four Shar Pei dogs, three pigeons, two budgies, and a Kakariki bird living in terrible conditions. The place was a mess, with a strong smell of waste everywhere. It was so bad that the inspector had to force the door open just to get inside.

Once inside, the inspector saw that the floors were covered in rubbish and animal waste. The kitchen was just as bad, with trash piled up and sticky floors. It was clear that the animals weren’t getting the care they needed.

One of the dogs, Gypsy, had sore eyes, and her puppies were in rough shape too. They hadn’t seen a vet in ages, which is just heartbreaking. The inspector found more animals crammed into dark, dirty spaces without food or light.

After the RSPCA took the animals away, they received the medical attention they desperately needed. The vet noted that Percy had caused unnecessary suffering by not providing proper care. He ended up pleading guilty to several animal welfare offenses.

In court, he was given a community order and a fine, plus he can’t own any animals for five years. It’s a tough lesson, but hopefully, it’ll make a difference for the animals.
