North East Events Cancelled and Venues Closed Due to Winter Weather

Newcastle: A bunch of events and attractions in the North East are shut down today and over the weekend because of the winter weather. It’s a bit of a mess out there!

Popular spots like Beamish Museum and the National Trust sites, Cragside and Wallington, have had to close up shop. The icy conditions are just too dangerous for visitors. Plus, several Parkrun events in Newcastle, North Tyneside, and County Durham have been cancelled since the courses aren’t safe.

Beamish Museum let folks know they’re closed today because of icy conditions in the car park. If you were thinking of visiting this weekend, check their website or social media first.

Wallington is also closed today and tomorrow due to a serious ice build-up, especially in the car park. They had heavy snow last weekend, and now it’s all compacted into a slippery mess. They’ll decide about Sunday later, but safety comes first!

Cragside is in the same boat, closed today and tomorrow. They mentioned that the snow hasn’t melted because of the freezing temps. They’re hoping to reopen soon as the weather warms up a bit.

Vindolanda, the Hadrian’s Wall site, is also closed today. They said the freezing temperatures have made it tough to access the site, even though it looks beautiful. They’ll keep everyone posted on when they can reopen.

Lastly, the Durham Schools Cross Country Championships have been cancelled due to advice from the Sunderland Harriers about the icy course. It’s a bummer, but safety is key!
