Great news for drivers! The A63 Castle Street will not have more overnight closures after January
Hull: So, here’s the scoop! A senior councillor just announced that there won’t be any more overnight closures on the A63 Castle Street after this month. That’s a relief, right?
This all ties back to the big £355 million A63 Castle Street project. Back in November, they kicked off eight weeks of overnight closures to get some work done. They needed to use cranes, so they had to clear the road from 8 PM to 6 AM on most weekdays, with a little break for the holidays.
These closures started on November 18, and they were necessary to keep drivers safe while the cranes were doing their thing. But now, Cllr Mark Ieronimo from Hull City Council has confirmed that once these closures wrap up at the end of January, that’s it!
However, there’s a bit of a bummer. National Highways has pushed back the project’s completion date by a whole year. It was supposed to finish in Spring 2025, but now it’s looking like Spring 2026. They said they ran into some tricky ground conditions near the Humber that they didn’t see coming.
This delay has left local businesses and politicians pretty upset. Even Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer weighed in, saying he gets the frustration about the A63. It’s been a bit of a ride, hasn’t it?
