Lincoln: So, there was this former police officer, John Mellor, who got into a pretty wild road rage situation. He ended up punching a guy and even stamping on his foot. Not cool, right?

It all went down on the A46 near Lincoln. Mellor claimed he was just defending himself against an erratic driver. But the misconduct panel didn’t buy it. They said he made things worse and acted way too violently.

Turns out, he broke a bunch of professional standards. If he was still on the force, he would have been fired. The motorist, Shane Price, said he was left feeling really shaken up and had a bruised face and pain in his foot.

A video from 2021 shows the whole thing. Price was trying to get Mellor to pull over, and when they did, things got heated. Mellor accused him of taking a picture while driving, which he denied. Then, out of nowhere, he pushed Price down and punched him.

It escalated quickly, and Mellor even stamped on Price’s already hurt foot. The panel was pretty harsh, saying there was no reason for the punch and that the public would be shocked to hear about it.

Lincolnshire Police were told to take action against Mellor. The lawyer for the police said Price was calm, while Mellor was the one being aggressive. Price didn’t deserve that treatment at all.

Mellor still thinks Price was the one being aggressive, even after watching the video a ton of times. He said he was worried about Price stepping into traffic and felt he had to push him away.

His lawyer tried to frame it as a road rage incident, questioning if Price and his wife were looking for trouble. They didn’t even show up to the hearing, which is a bit odd.

After Mellor’s trial in 2022, the police said he wouldn’t face any disciplinary action. But Price appealed, and the watchdog stepped in, telling the police to do something about it.
