Mick Herron, the acclaimed Newcastle author, is over the moon after winning the prestigious Diamond Dagger for his contributions to crime fiction
Newcastle: Mick Herron, the talented writer from Jesmond, has just bagged the Diamond Dagger, which is a big deal in the crime fiction world. This award is given to those who’ve made a significant impact in the genre over their lifetime.
Herron is best known for his Slough House series, which has even been turned into a TV show. He expressed his excitement, saying he’s “touched and thrilled beyond measure.” It’s a huge honor, especially since past winners include some big names like Ann Cleeves.
He’s been a part of the crime writing community for a long time and has written several novels, including the popular Slow Horses. His work has been translated into 25 languages, and now his earlier series is also getting the TV treatment with stars like Emma Thompson involved.
Herron started his writing journey while working as a sub-editor in London. His first book came out in 2003, and since then, he’s been on a roll. The Diamond Dagger is a recognition of his hard work and talent, and he’s grateful for the support from his fellow writers.
The CWA, which hands out these awards, has a panel of past winners who vote on the recipients. Herron has already won other awards, but this one feels special. He’s looking forward to the ceremony on July 3, where he’ll officially receive the Diamond Dagger.
