Newcastle horse racing trainer Paul Robson breaks his back and pelvis in a serious riding accident but is optimistic about his recovery
Newcastle: A well-known horse racing trainer, Paul Robson, had a terrible accident while riding. He broke his back and pelvis but is grateful for the amazing care he’s receiving at the Royal Victoria Infirmary.
Paul, who used to be a jockey, was airlifted to the hospital after the incident at his training yard in Hazelrigg. He took over the yard just last year, so this is a tough break for him.
He shared that while he’s not feeling great, his recovery is going better than expected. He mentioned, “I’m not on my feet yet, but I’ve managed a few steps with a zimmer frame.”
Paul is optimistic, saying the trauma team at the RVI has been fantastic. He’s already making progress just six days after the accident and hopes to be back at his yard in a few weeks.
Doctors told him he’s been lucky because his breaks are clean, meaning he won’t need any pins or plates. He’s just waiting for everything to heal up.
He recently updated everyone online, saying he’s been getting three physio sessions a day, which is helping a lot. He’s also been busy keeping up with work from his hospital bed, so he’s not feeling too out of the loop.
Paul reassured everyone that his training yard is in good hands with his wife and family helping out. He’s confident that the horses are still getting the care they need while he recovers.
He’s been keeping his mind occupied with admin work and looking at race entries, so he’s staying positive. Paul is hopeful he’ll be back at the track soon!
