Newcastle: A man is facing serious consequences after a live gun was found by kids as young as nine. It’s a pretty shocking situation.

Back in May 2023, some children aged between nine and eleven stumbled upon a firearm while they were just playing in Byker. Thankfully, no one got hurt, but it could have been a lot worse.

When the police looked into it, they found a video on Ali Abdughari-Abud’s phone. In the video, there was a gun lying around, and it looked like the same one the kids had found. Talk about a close call!

After testing, they confirmed it was a real firearm. Abdughari-Abud was charged with some serious firearm offenses. He’s from Shieldfield and ended up getting a five-year sentence.

In October, he pleaded guilty to having a firearm and ammo without the proper paperwork. The court didn’t take it lightly and sentenced him to five years behind bars.

Detective Sergeant David Wylam from Northumbria Police said it was a great team effort that got this dangerous guy off the streets. He emphasized that firearms have no place in communities, especially around kids.

It’s a relief that the kids didn’t get hurt, but this case shows how seriously the police are taking gun-related crimes. Abdughari-Abud is now facing the consequences of his actions, and the community can breathe a little easier.
