Cardiff: So, it looks like the weather is going to be a bit of a mess as we ring in the New Year. The Met Office is warning us about a mix of rain, snow, and some seriously strong winds. They’ve put out yellow warnings for various parts of the UK starting from December 30 through January 2.

On New Year’s Day, Wales is set to face two yellow warnings for wind and rain. These warnings kick off at 9 am on January 1 and will stick around into Thursday. It’s going to be a wet and wild start to the year!

They’re expecting heavy rain across a big chunk of the country, with the Met Office saying we could see 20 to 40mm of rain, and even up to 80mm in the hills. So, if you’re planning to head out, you might want to grab your umbrella!

Andy Page, a chief forecaster, mentioned that the forecast is pretty complicated. Almost the whole UK is under some sort of weather warning. With all the celebrations happening, it’s a good idea to keep an eye on the forecast and adjust your plans if needed.

On Monday and Tuesday, Scotland will see a mix of heavy rain and snow, especially in the northern areas. They’re predicting 10-20cm of snow on higher ground, which could lead to some blizzard-like conditions. But don’t worry, as milder air moves in, it’ll likely turn to rain.

As for Northern Ireland and northern England, they’re expecting wind gusts of up to 70mph. That’s pretty strong and could cause some disruptions, so be careful out there!

On New Year’s Day, snow will hit parts of Northern Ireland, southern Scotland, and northern England. The Met Office is warning of possible accumulations of 10-15cm, especially in the hills. So, if you’re in those areas, be prepared for some wintry weather.

In England and Wales, strong winds will be a big factor, with gusts reaching 65-75 mph in some spots. It’s definitely going to be a blustery start to the year!

Looking ahead, the Met Office has shared some weather maps for Wales for New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. They’re saying it’ll start dry with some bright spots, but rain will move in throughout the day. Expect it to be windy, especially in coastal areas.

As we welcome in 2025, the weather is going to be a bit of a rollercoaster. So, if you’re planning to celebrate, make sure to stay updated on the weather and stay safe!
