Birkenhead: Exciting plans are in the works for a new urban village! This project could bring 1,600 homes to a currently empty area between two train stations. Imagine parks, pubs, and even a primary school right in the heart of the community.

The development is set to cover 26 hectares of land and is one of the biggest proposals from the Wirral Council. They’re hoping to get the green light from councillors soon. It’s all about creating a lively neighborhood where people can live, work, and play.

Steve Parry, the managing director of Ion Developments, believes this project can really change lives. With £51 million in public funding backing it, they’re ready to kick things off. The plans include not just homes, but also offices, gyms, and community spaces.

While it sounds great, we might have to wait a bit. The first homes won’t be ready until 2028, and the full project could take until 2040 to complete. But the vision is clear: a vibrant community that brings people together.

Councillors will also look at plans to remove two flyovers and reroute a sewer. So far, feedback has been mostly positive, with just one neutral comment from the public. It seems like everyone is excited about the potential changes.

There’s a lot of focus on the Dock Branch Park, which will be a key feature of the development. It’s designed to be a beautiful public space with play areas and seating, making Birkenhead a more attractive place to live.

As for the buildings, they’ll range from two to seven stories high, with shops and restaurants on the ground floor. The idea is to create a village feel, with a square that offers great views of the town hall.

In the north part of the site, plans include a new primary school and student accommodation. Ion Developments is asking for 15 years to complete everything in stages, which sounds like a smart move to ensure quality.

So, mark your calendars! Councillors will discuss this exciting project at a special meeting on January 16. It’s a big step towards revitalizing Birkenhead!
