Harlow: Big news for Harlow! Plans for 10,000 new homes have just been given the green light. This development will be right next to the town, with 8,500 homes in six new villages and another 1,500 in a seventh village.

The East Herts Council approved these plans, and Harlow Council is on board too. They’ve shared a document showing how close these new villages will be to Harlow, with the railway station sitting right in between.

These plans have stirred up some debate, but they’ve reached a big milestone with outline planning permission. It’s all part of the larger Harlow and Gilston Garden Town project.

Cllr Dan Swords, the leader of Harlow Council, called it a “historic day” for the area. He mentioned that this project will bring transformational growth, including 2,300 affordable homes for locals. It’s a big deal for the community and sets a standard for future developments.

Along with the homes, there will be spaces for businesses, shops, sports, and healthcare. They’re also planning parks and schools, which is great for families.

Cllr Swords emphasized that they’ve worked hard to make this a desirable place to live. Over half of the area will be green space, and the designs will be top-notch.

He reassured everyone that this development won’t cause traffic jams or strain local services. Instead, it aims to improve the quality of life for everyone in Harlow and the surrounding areas.

He added that this is one of the largest planning permissions ever granted, paving the way for new homes and investment in the community.

Councillor Vicky Glover-Ward from the Green Party expressed her satisfaction with the planning permissions, highlighting the importance of sustainable growth in the area.

Lastly, Councillor Richard Roberts from Hertfordshire County Council noted that this agreement is a significant step for the Harlow Gilston Garden Town project, ensuring that growth comes with the necessary infrastructure to support thriving communities.
