Exciting plans emerge for a unique Wednesbury property to become a special needs school
Wednesbury: A unique home in Wednesbury, built over 25 years, might soon become a special needs school. This four-bedroom Round House, located near the town center, has a tennis court, swimming pool, and even its own windmill.
It’s quite the place! The house was put on the market for over £1 million. It took ages to build, starting back in the 1980s, using materials salvaged from old buildings around the West Midlands. Think bricks, steel, and heavy stone—all recycled!
The previous owner, Matthew Humphries, sold it after his parents passed away. His family had been in the demolition business for generations. Now, Birmingham-based Spring Hill High School wants to turn it into a school for kids with social, emotional, and mental health challenges.
They plan to accommodate 25 to 30 students in the main roundhouse. There’s also a one-bedroom lodge that will serve as a training flat, and part of the garage will be transformed into a car park and art space. The windmill? It’s set to become a school library!
The school aims to help students who struggle in traditional learning environments. With small group sizes, they can build trust and work on positive behaviors. Plus, there’s always a safe space for students to retreat to when they need a break.
