Exciting new images showcase the upcoming changes to Halifax town centre’s travel systems and public spaces
Halifax: Have you seen the new pictures of Halifax town centre? They’re pretty cool! The plans are all about making travel easier and more enjoyable.
The A629 Phase 2 project is a big deal, fully funded by the West Yorkshire Combined Authority. Calderdale Council is leading the charge, and it’s exciting to see what’s coming.
The images show new public spaces and safe travel routes, including cycle paths. There’s a new link to Bull Green and a fresh look for Cow Green, making it a welcoming spot from the west.
Plus, there’s a new route from Halifax Rail Station to the town centre, connecting to places like Square Chapel and the Central Library. It’s all about making it easier for everyone to get around.
They’re also adding pedestrian areas and safe routes for cyclists on Broad Street. The layout around the Victoria Theatre is getting a makeover, and Market Street will be pedestrian-friendly.
So far, the project has made great strides. They’ve been working on Bull Green, Northgate, and Broad Street, adding new pedestrian facilities and cycle lanes. It’s all about smooth traffic flow, especially during busy times.
One of the first big changes was getting rid of the Bull Green roundabout, which is a step towards a better junction.

To make things even easier, Calderdale Council has started a free shuttle bus service around the town’s western areas.
Councillor Sarah Courtney is really excited about the changes. She mentioned that millions are being invested to transform travel in Halifax, making it more efficient and improving public transport and cycling options.
