Exciting new murals by local artists have transformed the subway at South Bristol’s train station, making it a vibrant spot for commuters and visitors alike
Bristol: A dingy subway at the South Bristol train station just got a major facelift with two colorful murals. This transformation was made possible by funds from local developers who revamped the area.
Local artists, Paul Roberts, known as Paul Monsters, and Lucas Antics, painted these vibrant pieces. They were funded through the Community Infrastructure Levy from the Bedminster Green regeneration project.
The murals were unveiled on January 20, in a collaboration between Upfest and the Severnside Community Rail Partnership. The project aimed to brighten up the dark tunnel and make it more inviting.
Alex Lucas from Lucas Antics shared how much he enjoyed working in Bedminster. He mentioned that the underpass is a space people use daily, and it was a great chance to create something that reflects the community’s history and future.
Local councillors, including Cllr Lisa Stone, were thrilled to secure funding for these murals. They believe it enhances the station experience and showcases the community’s pride.
Previously, there was some artwork in the underpass created by students at Victoria Park, but it was time for a change. That artwork has now been returned to the school for display.
A spokesperson for the project noted that these murals are part of a broader effort to improve the local environment, responding to community calls for enhancements. The new art reflects the vibrant character of Bedminster.
Station manager Alex Hills expressed delight in supporting this project, emphasizing how the new artwork has transformed the underpass. He encourages everyone to visit and see the changes for themselves.
