Monmouthshire launches a mobile coverage checker to help residents assess their signal quality and connectivity options
Monmouthshire: A new mobile coverage checker has just been launched. This handy tool was developed by the Monmouthshire County Council and Streetwave. It’s designed to help folks check how good their mobile signal is.
The council teamed up with Streetwave back in September 2023. They wanted to get a better idea of the signal quality in the area. So, they put data collection equipment in their waste collection trucks to do weekly surveys around the county.
This survey was backed by The River Severn Partnership Advanced Wireless Innovation Region, which got a nice chunk of £3.75 million from the government. This funding is all about boosting wireless innovation and tech in important economic areas.
The coverage checker shows which mobile networks are the fastest near homes, businesses, and other spots. It has data for EE, Vodafone, 3, and O2, collected from outside most addresses in the council.
Councillor Sara Burch, who looks after rural affairs, housing, and tourism, said this is a fantastic initiative. It’ll give people in the region some really useful insights.
She added that this tool will help businesses, local authorities, and individuals make better decisions about their service options. It’s all about having the latest info and the best connections.
This project is part of the council’s ongoing effort to make sure residents have reliable info about their connectivity choices in the county. If you want to learn more about connectivity speeds in your area, check out the Monmouthshire County Council website.
