Gloucestershire: Exciting news! Plans for a new home and garage near Gloucester got the green light. The Forest of Dean District Council discussed a self-build two-story home at Woodbine Cottage in Hartpury.

This project was brought to the development management committee because it’s outside the settlement boundary. That goes against the council’s planning rules. The site has an orchard and a paddock, making it a lovely spot for a home.

The new house will cover about 83 square meters. It will have an oak-framed porch, a big balcony, solar panels, and dormer windows. The design includes off-white walls, dark red roof tiles, and conservation grey windows and doors.

Inside, the ground floor will have an open-plan kitchen and dining area, a lounge, a study, a WC, and a hallway. The first floor will feature three bedrooms, a bathroom, and an en-suite.

Councillor James Bevan suggested granting permission, following the officer’s recommendation. Councillor Julia Gooch supported this idea.

However, Councillor Andrew McDermid raised concerns about protecting existing trees. He wanted to know how the council would enforce the conditions.

Officers assured that the development must follow the planning conditions. If not, it would be sent to the enforcement team. In the end, all councillors voted in favor of the project.
