Derby: A new Co-op has opened where the old House of Darwin pub used to be. This spot is a big deal for locals since two nearby stores shut down recently.

On a chilly Friday morning, folks were eager to check out the new place. It’s not just your regular Co-op; it has an Insomnia Cafe where you can chill with a drink before or after shopping.

This larger store is designed to serve everyone from the old Chellaston and Shelton Lock shops. It’s packed with cool features like a bakery, hot food section, and even a Tango Ice Blast machine. Plus, there’s a free water refill station!

They’re also adding InPost lockers and EV charging points soon. You can even drop off and pick up parcels there. During the renovations, they found some quirky pheasant-themed wallpaper, which they’ve used in the store’s design.

The renovations included a lot of upgrades, like new insulation and a revamped car park with 36 spaces. They’ve also added better lighting for safety.

In line with their green goals, they’ve put solar panels on the roof and set up a solar farm on some unused land. Inside the cafe, they’ve kept some original features from the pub, like timber frames and a chimney, making it a cozy spot to hang out.

A spokesperson for Central Co-op mentioned that this store is more than just a shopping place; it’s meant to be a community hub where everyone can come together, enjoy good food, and access important services. Sounds like a great addition to the neighborhood!
