The long-awaited Charfield train station will finally open in 2027, after delays pushed back its original timeline.
Charfield: A new train station in Charfield, South Gloucestershire, was supposed to open last year, but now it’s set for 2027. This station has been in the works for ages, with planning permission finally granted in March 2023. It’s located on the Bristol to Gloucester railway line.
It’s been a long wait for the village, which hasn’t had a train station for 60 years since the old one closed due to the Beeching cuts. For three decades, folks have been talking about getting a new station, and it’s finally happening.
The new station will cost around £22 million and will be built near Station Road in the village center. It’ll have two platforms, a pedestrian footbridge, a bus stop, and parking for bikes and cars.
Construction hasn’t started yet, and it was initially hoped to open by the end of 2024. But a new planning application was submitted in July 2024 to help get things moving. The goal is to have the station ready by spring 2027.
Once built, the station will provide a much-needed transport option for locals. The area has limited public transport, leading to a lot of car use. With around 14,500 residents nearby, this station will make a big difference.
It’ll connect to Bristol Parkway, Bristol Temple Meads, and Gloucester, making it easier for people to get around. The station is part of the MetroWest network, which aims to improve transport links in the region.
Enabling works are expected to kick off this month, with construction planned to run from 2025 to the 2027 opening. It’s an exciting time for Charfield, and residents are looking forward to the new station!
