A new library in Cambridgeshire is on track to open soon after overcoming legal hurdles
Cambridgeshire: Exciting news! A new library in Cherry Hinton is finally on the way to opening after some legal delays. The redevelopment wrapped up in June 2024, and the place looks fantastic.
When it opens, there’ll be a cozy café called The Cherry Branch, run by local volunteers. They’ve been waiting to get things rolling, but some legal stuff has held them back longer than expected.
The library is owned by Cambridge City Council, which put up the funds for the makeover. Cambridgeshire County Council will manage the library part, while the community group will handle the café and meeting spaces.
One of the volunteers mentioned that it’s just been a lengthy negotiation process, nothing went wrong. They want to make sure everything is perfect before they open the doors.
According to a spokesperson from the County Council, they’re aiming for a spring 2025 opening. It’s a joint effort between them, the City Council, and the community group, and they’re still working out the lease details.
The City Council is also in talks to finalize everything. They know the locals are eager to check out the new space, especially since the construction finished last June. They’re pushing to get everything sorted so the community can enjoy the new hub soon.
